Wind Power

With a good site a wind generator can provide an extremely effective means of generating electricity and if you are not using the electricity you have the option of selling your surplus energy produced to the national grid.

There are a number of options available for you to choose from simple roof mounted turbines to turbines on masts. We will only recommend that you proceed with this option if there is sufficient wind in your area to operate your turbine effectively.

Firstly it is important to know if you live in an area where there is sufficient average wind speed to drive your wind turbine. To check that you live in an area of the UK that has sufficient wind please go to

Siting of your wind turbine is important and generally it should be installed on either on the top a hill or on a south west facing hill - this will significantly increase the exposure to higher annual mean wind speeds. Additionally the wind turbine should be sited away from buildings and trees that often disrupt the airflow of the wind.

We work with our partners Proven Energy on all of our wind turbine projects and we are able to supply 4 different options for wind turbines from a 0.6kW turbine to the newest and largest in the range a 15kw turbine.

  • The 600W Proven wind turbine is the smallest wind turbine that Proven manufacture. Standing at the same height as a telegraph pole this miniature turbine can provide enough electricity to power lighting circuits in a standard 3-bed house in the UK.
  • The 2.5kW Proven wind turbine is the ideal wind turbine for powering a standard 3-bed house in the UK. The output almost matches typical demand of such a house (electrical appliances only, not electric heating) and can provide a little power for exporting in some cases.
  • The 6kW Proven turbine will give about 3 times more power than a 2.5kW wind turbine and therefore is better suited to a larger house or to someone who wants to generate an excess of electricity for exporting on to the national grid.
  • The 15kW is Proven's most recent addition to the range. This larger size turbine is ideal for light industrial, light commercial and agricultural use. With this sort of power you can easily power about 6 or 7 typical 3-bed houses in the UK (depending on your wind resource of course).
Please note that you may need to apply for planning permission to allow you to install a wind turbine. We would recommend that you consult with you local council planning office before proceeding with this option.
